Exodus 4-6 Learning To Trust The God Who Sends
“I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.”
Overview
Exodus 4–6 traces Moses’ continued resistance to his calling and God’s unwavering patience in equipping him for the task. Moses fears rejection, questions his speech, and even asks God to send someone else. In response, God appoints Aaron as his spokesman and gives signs to confirm His power. Yet even after obedience, Moses faces Pharaoh’s hard heart, Israel’s disappointment, and his own discouragement. God’s message remains constant: “I am the LORD.” His identity and promises—not human success—guarantee the outcome.
When things worsen before they improve, God reminds Moses that deliverance is a process. Redemption takes shape in steps—through obedience, persistence, and trust in the One who has spoken.
When Obedience Feels Like Failure
Moses finally obeyed. After all the questions, doubts, and debates with God, he went back to Egypt, ready to confront Pharaoh and lead God’s people to freedom. But instead of celebration, he faced backlash. Pharaoh made life harder, the people blamed him, and Moses’ courage nearly collapsed.
How often do we experience the same thing? We step out in faith—start the ministry, have the conversation, change direction—and instead of doors opening, everything seems to shut. We wonder, “Did I hear God wrong?”
God’s answer to Moses is timeless: “Now you will see what I will do.” (Exodus 6:1) In other words, the delay is not denial—it’s divine preparation. Before deliverance comes, faith must be tested and strengthened.
In our performance-driven world, we associate success with speed, numbers, and applause. But God measures progress differently. Obedience isn’t proven by immediate results but by enduring faithfulness. Just as Moses’ mission took shape through frustration, our spiritual growth often comes through seasons that look like failure.
When the Israelites couldn’t see God’s hand, He reminded them of His name: “I am the LORD.” That name anchors every promise and outlasts every obstacle. God’s identity is the foundation of His faithfulness.
When you feel stuck or unseen, remember—Moses did too. Yet God was still working, forming a story far greater than the moment of disappointment. The same God who led Moses step by step leads you too, and His deliverance always comes right on time.
Why It’s Important
When we obey God and things immediately get harder, we often assume we misunderstood the assignment. But Moses’ story teaches us that difficulty is not disobedience—it’s part of development. God uses delay and resistance to deepen faith and demonstrate His power.
In today’s world, we measure progress by speed, performance, and visible results. We want to see instant fruit from our faith and quick validation of our choices. Yet just as Moses faced skepticism from his people and rejection from Pharaoh, we too encounter pushback when walking in obedience.
