Sharing: The Power of the Middle Chapter

I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Psalm 40:1-3

We often talk about our “before Christ” and “after Christ” stories, but there’s a deeply sacred space in the middle — the moment when Jesus meets us, just like He did with Paul on the road to Damascus. That encounter is where everything shifts. It’s where light breaks through the darkness, questions meet answers, and purpose is born.

In Acts 26, Paul doesn’t shy away from describing the moment Jesus called him by name. He talks about the blinding light, the fall to the ground, and the voice that pierced through his pride: “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” What follows is nothing short of divine assignment: Jesus calls Paul to rise, become a servant, and testify about what he had seen and would yet experience.

What about you? What did it look like when Jesus broke into your story?

For me, that moment didn’t come in a flash of lightning — it came through the slow erosion of pride, ambition, and striving. I reached a point where I had knowledge but no purpose, possessions but no peace, and relationships that felt more like transactions than genuine connections. My “Damascus road” was paved with disappointment, burnout, and a sense that I was missing something more. Jesus met me there — not to condemn me, but to invite me into something greater.

He didn’t wait for me to get my act together. He stepped in during my illness, loneliness, and confusion. He brought peace, community, and a chance to be part of something bigger than myself. I didn’t find Jesus at the top of the ladder — I found Him at the bottom of the well. And I’m so grateful I did.

Since that moment, things haven’t been perfect. My prayer life still stumbles. My emotions still waver. But everything has changed. I no longer live for results or recognition — I live to serve, connect, and walk beside others on their own journey toward Jesus. My past doesn’t define me; it’s been repurposed.

If you’ve never taken the time to write your story — I challenge you to do it today. Not just for yourself, but for the person who might need to hear it. Someone needs to know that Jesus still meets people on the road. That light still breaks through. And that they, too, can rise and follow Him.

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
— Revelation 3:20

Beecher Wilhelm

Beecher Wilhelm brings a wealth of financial wisdom as a retired credit manager with an MBA from Syracuse University—but his impact doesn’t stop there. As a dynamic small group leader at his local church and a guest writer for Connect Home Life, Beecher combines faith and experience to inspire others. Whether he’s breaking a sweat at the gym, sharing laughs with family and friends, or discovering hidden gem eateries, Beecher lives life with purpose and passion.

To hear Beecher tell it: “I’m not a Bible scholar. Most days, I feel like I’m one step behind the groups I lead. But I show up—because grace showed up for me. I’m a recovering imposter, sinner saved by grace, still learning where the books of the Bible are. What I do know is this: Jesus uses the unqualified to reach the overlooked. So I open the door, make space for the unheard and unsure, and trust that when we show up with compassion, He does the rest. If you’ve ever felt unseen or unworthy, you’re exactly who I’m here for. Let’s figure it out together.”
