Mom letters inside heart with tulips

Even as motherhood changes, the love you carry never disappears.

Introduction: A Day Full of Meaning

Mother’s Day carries more than a celebration.
It holds joy, gratitude… and for many, quiet grief.

For some, it’s a day filled with hugs and family gathered close.
For others, it carries longing, remembrance, or emotions that are harder to name.

Wherever this day finds you… know this:

He sees you.
He loves you.
He won’t forget you.

This blog is a sacred pause to honor every kind of mother—because circumstances do not define the depth of a mother’s love, only the heart behind it.

Scripture reminds us that even the deepest human love reflects something greater:

Capstone Verse

Isaiah 49:15-16 (NIV)

“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast
and have no compassion on the child she has borne?
Though she may forget,
    I will not forget you!
See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;
your walls are ever before me.”

The Invisible Stories Behind the Smiles

On a day when social media is full of joyful posts and smiling family photos, it’s easy to feel out of place if your experience looks different. If Mother’s Day is hard for you—because of loss, estrangement, longing, or something too painful to put into words—please know this:

God sees your story. He is near to the brokenhearted. And your worth is not defined by the roles you’ve held - or the ones you’ve longed for. This is something many of us have had to relearn—especially when identity has been shaped by roles, expectations, or approval. Read our Identity Series starting here.

You are His beloved daughter, deeply loved and never overlooked.

Let’s remember that not all pain is visible. Behind many bright smiles today are women who have wept in secret, prayed in silence, and walked roads of unimaginable strength. We honor you.

A Call to Celebrate the Mothers Among Us

Mother’s Day isn’t only about flowers and cards—it’s about acknowledging the sacred, life-giving love that shapes us. And that kind of love often comes from unexpected places: a teacher who believed in us, an aunt who raised us, a friend who listened and prayed, a neighbor who offered help at just the right time.

So today, I invite you to do something meaningful:

🌼 Think of a woman who’s poured into you like a mother.
A friend, teacher, mentor, or encourager who walked beside you.

🌼 Reach out. Say, “Thank you. You’ve made a difference in my life.”

🌼 Share a memory. Write a note. Offer a prayer. Let her know she’s appreciated—not just today, but always.

This simple act of gratitude could be the encouragement someone needs to hear. It reminds us all that mothering is less about biology and more about presence, care, and sacrifice.

To the Empty Nest Mothers

If you’re in the empty nest season, this Mother’s Day may feel different—bittersweet, perhaps even lonely. After years of raising children, your home might be quieter, your hands less full, and your role shifting. If this season has you wondering who you are without the roles you once carried, you’re not alone. (Read the Role Trap)

But friend, your purpose is not over. In fact, it’s overflowing.

You’ve poured love, wisdom, and guidance into your children. Now, God is inviting you to continue that legacy in new ways. Mentor younger moms. Serve in your church. Write, create, teach, lead. Your experience and faith are powerful gifts.

Let this season be one of renewal and rediscovery. You are still a mother - but more than that, your life still carries purpose and influence in ways that are continuing to unfold.

If Today Feels Heavy...

Know this: You are not alone. Whether you're grieving a mother, missing a child, or carrying an unfulfilled longing, may you feel God's nearness in a real and tender way today.

He knows your heart. He collects your tears. He is with you in your joy and your sorrow.

Even when the world doesn’t understand, even when the ache lingers—He does.

You Are Deeply Loved

Wherever you find yourself today—celebrating, grieving, or somewhere in between-

Know this:

You are deeply loved.
Your story matters.
Your presence matters.

And the way you’ve loved—through care, prayer, sacrifice, or simply showing up—has made a difference.

💖Happy Mother’s Day!💐

Jo Wilhelm

Jo Wilhelm, founder of Connect Home Life and retired wealth management professional, understands the bittersweet mix of grief and freedom that follows life after raising children.

After stepping away from her financial career due to health challenges, she devoted herself fully to family life. When her children moved out, and the house grew quiet, she faced the identity shift many empty nest moms experience:

  •  Who am I beyond parenting?

  • What is my purpose in this next season?

  • How do I realign my daily life with God's direction?

Her children later married and built lives of their own, but the transition began long before wedding celebrations. The empty nest season arrived in stages — and with it came both gratitude and grief.

Parenting roles shifted. Marriage rhythms adjusted. Faith deepened in unexpected ways.

Today, Jo equips Christian empty nesters with faith-based digital resources, Biblical encouragement, and personal mentoring designed to help them rediscover identity, reignite passion, and realign their lives with God's calling.

Her work centers on helping empty nesters rediscover purpose after the kids leave home — not by starting over, but by stepping forward with intention. Throughout Connect Home Life, Jo shares practical encouragement and honest reflections from her own empty nest journey to help others navigate this season with faith and confidence.
